For grown-ups

Exactly what your child actually learns

Captain Cleo is one world of games that teaches your child the things school mostly skips: how money really works, times tables that finally stick, and how to think clearly about what a screen is telling them. Here is the whole curriculum, openly, including how far along each part honestly is, how we keep them safe, and what it costs.

What your child actually learns

Three things, and how far along each one really is

Two are finished. One is genuinely new, and we are not going to dress it up as more than it is.

Money

The subject school skips and life examines hardest

Money Quest: The Money Isles is the biggest world by a distance, and it is the reason most families come. Your child sails five seas, and every island teaches one real territory of money through a game that makes them do the thing rather than read about it.

  • Home Waters. Earning, needs against wants, saving with a goal, budgeting a real week, and what a bank actually does with their money.
  • The Wild Waters. Phishing texts, fake shops, cloned voices, what a two percent loot box chance really means, adverts and dark patterns, debt and APR, and why prices rise.
  • The Builder's Sea. A first payslip line by line, the deductions before they see a penny, starting a business, why tax exists, the VAT hiding inside a price, and currencies.
  • The Deep Sea. Owning a slice of a company, diversification, reading a simple balance sheet, crypto and the rug pull, renting against buying and how a mortgage works.
  • The Far Horizon. AI agents that shop for you, prices that follow you around, giving wisely, pensions, and compounding shown as a lifetime.
  • One honest economy. Every coin is earned by learning and none can be bought, because this is the world that teaches children to spot exactly that trick.

Honestly counted: 197 of the 202 concepts are taught in the world today, 5 are partway built and labelled as such, and every one of the 20 island games is real and playable.

Clear thinking

We stopped teaching AI, and started teaching thinking

Captain Cleo used to have an AI world. We retired it on purpose: teaching a child how this year's machines work has a short shelf life, and teaching a child to weigh evidence does not. Every piece was judged by what a child actually learns in it, and nothing was renamed to keep it alive.

🧠

Clear thinking

The newest part, and the least finished

  • Claims and proof. Never repeat what you have not checked.
  • Who is missing. Who was left out, and who checks the checker.
  • Weighing the evidence. One clue weighted stupidly ruins the answer.
  • Check before you share. Anger travels faster than truth.
  • Making the call. Defend it out loud, and say who is accountable.
  • What a tool is for. What it cannot do, and why speed is not wisdom.
  • Where it came from. Provenance beats appearance.
  • Asking better questions. Vague in, vague out.
  • Learning or borrowing. Ask for the explanation, not the answer.

Plainly, before you pay: the money and the maths are finished, and this is not. The nine are built, but they sit behind the family password while we rewrite them out of the old machine language, and clear thinking has no place of its own in your child's world yet. Four more are written and unbuilt. Seven that were really about how machines are made are archived, not rebranded, and not sold to you.

🔒

And staying safe online, running through all of it

A thread, never a subject with its own price tag

Three of our strongest experiences are about staying safe, and we deliberately did not turn them into a fourth syllabus to sell you. Your child meets them in the middle of a game, which is where the lesson lands.

  • What is private. A face and a voice are data too, and a free app is taking something instead of money.
  • The family codeword. The panicked call that is not really you. Hang up, ring back on the number you know.
  • Too good to be true. Urgency is the trick. If they get caught, they tell you fast and nobody is cross.

Scams run right through the money world too, in Scam Alley, the Ad Jungle and Loot Box Reef, so the same warning arrives twice without a lecture either time.

And the maths

144 facts, 12 tables, 8 games

School already teaches maths, so this is the smaller part of what you are paying for: it exists to make the times tables automatic. All 144 facts, eight games with six of them sharing one clever brain, honest preparation for the Year 4 tables check, and Star Voyager for children working at Year 5 and beyond. The Tables-Check Blitz is free for everyone, and every maths game is free for teachers.

No adverts, no purchases inside games, no loot boxes with real money. Nothing here is trying to sell to your child.

Data stays private

Progress lives on your own device. No child sign-ups, no data harvesting, no third-party trackers.

No strangers

No online multiplayer, no chat, no public leaderboards. Ever. Any two-player game is on one device, side by side.

No AI talks to your child

Nowhere in Captain Cleo does a real AI speak to your child. Every character is scripted, safe, and identical every time.

How it works

Play first, learn quietly

It is one real game your child asks to play, not a set of subjects with a game bolted on. The learning is baked into the fun: the maths powers the ship, the money runs the shop, and the thinking is the puzzle. The games adapt, feeding your child the next thing they are ready for, never too easy and never overwhelming. You always see what they actually learned. Children go in at one door, captaincleo.com/play, and never have to work out which world a thing lives in.

💬

Chat with Cleo, being built now

A warm, patient tutor who never shows a red cross. When your child is stuck on seven times eight or unsure what a share is, Cleo will walk them through it gently, one step at a time. Like everything here it stays scripted and safe, never a live AI talking to your child. It is not finished yet, so we are not pretending it is.

Progress

Belts: one real, two only planned

Like a karate belt, it marks finished work, not time spent. Today there is one to work towards.

● Built and playable

The green belt

Earned by completing every level in the money world. It reads your child's own saved progress, so it cannot be tapped, bought or given early.

○ Planned, not built

Red, then black

The plan is green, then red, then black. What red and black will ask for has not been decided, so we will not describe them, and your child's screens do not show them. No belt costs extra.

The founding families

500 places, and the badge is yours for good.

The first 500 families are the Founding Families, the 500 cabins on the maiden voyage. Their first year is £49, and it renews at the standard £99 a year afterwards, with plenty of notice before it does. When the 500th cabin fills, the founding door closes for good. The Founding Family badge and your number stay on your account permanently, whatever you pay later.

There are only 500 founding places, ever. That number is real: we never inflate it and we never fake urgency.

The voyage plan

A year of learning, one island a week

The membership works best treated as an annual curriculum. Our suggested pace is one island a week across the school year, with maths weeks woven in along the way and the thinking adventures joining as they open.

20 islandsplus maths weeks woven through the year
1 a weekthe suggested pace across the school year
Under £1 a week£49 across your first year, for the whole family

This is a pace we suggest, not a lock. Nothing unlocks weekly and nothing is held back: all of it is open from the first day, and a child can sprint ahead or linger wherever they love it. The voyage plan is simply how parents turn one membership into a full year of learning.

Free for schools, forever

🍎 Teachers get all of Maths Legends free

Schools already teach maths, so every maths game is free for every child in your class, for as long as you teach. Children are added by first name only, nothing else, and a teacher dashboard shows each child's mastery and their predicted Year 4 tables-check score. Your class also gets a code that gives those families money off the rest of Captain Cleo at home, which is the money and the thinking work school does not cover.

Common questions

Straight answers

Is it really safe?

Yes. No ads, no purchases inside games, no strangers, no online multiplayer, no live AI, and no data harvesting. Progress is stored on your own device.

What ages is it for?

Roughly 5 to 15, matching the five bands on the front door. Younger children start with the play-first maths and the early money islands. Older children have the deep money seas, the thinking adventures and Star Voyager for Year 5 and beyond.

What happened to the AI world?

We retired it. It is honestly a better product without it. Every piece was judged by what a child actually learns in it: the nine that teach real thinking became the clear thinking work above, three became the online safety thread, one folded into the honesty ideas the games already carry, and seven that were genuinely about how machines are built are archived. We did not rename the archived ones to keep them on the shelf, and no AI ever talks to your child anywhere in Captain Cleo.

What can we play right now?

The money world and the maths are built and playable in full. The thinking adventures are built but not finished, and we say so above rather than counting them as if they were. Everything is in a private family preview while we finish our launch checks, so it asks for a family password until launch day.

When does it launch?

Captain Cleo sails on 14 September. The first cohort is 500 families, and that is genuinely all we take. Joining the list holds your place for the founding offer, which is £49 for your first year and £99 a year after that.

Do I pay now?

No. Nothing charges today. You can take the free Future-Ready Check and join the founding list, and you will know exactly what the offer is before anything opens.

The story

Built by a family, for families

Captain Cleo grew out of one mum trying to teach her own children the things school skips: how money really works, times tables that actually stick, and how to think straight about what a screen is telling them. Her children did not just test it, they designed large parts of it, and they drew the islands.
